What type of tutoring sessions do you offer?

My tutoring sessions are exclusively literacy based (phonemic awareness, phonological coding, phonics, oral reading, reading comprehension, and spelling). If you don't see what you are interested in for your child on this list please reach out and ask!  I use specific materials and curricula that I provide during our sessions. I am an experienced reading tutor who focuses on employing evidenced-based instruction to build student's reading fluency, which directly impacts their success in and outside of the classroom. I do not help students with their homework assignments sent home from school.

How long are your tutoring sessions?

Sessions typically run from 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the needs and comfort level of the student.

Where do tutoring sessions take place?

Families have the option of selecting either virtual Zoom sessions or in-person sessions at one of our two locations on Signal Mountain or North Shore. Session materials and rewards are tailored specifically to fit both the child and the setting, either virtual or in person.

How much do tutoring sessions cost?

Sessions are $30 for half an hour & $60 for an hour. Pricing plans are available. Assessments are free.

How often do tutoring sessions take place?

In my experience short and more frequent contact with the material goes a long way towards making progress with young readers. I typically recommend 3 to 4, 30-minute sessions spread across the week either in-person or virtually. Some families prefer 2, one-hour sessions per week, depending on the availability of the child and their family's schedule. * 1.5 hours a week is our minimum for new clients.

Is work assigned outside of tutoring sessions?

Homework is not assigned; however, I do provide families with recommended reading passages, stories, and word lists for practice, as well as other materials tailored to the student's learning needs.

What ages do you teach?

My focus is on teaching children ages 5-12. If you have a special case, please reach out and contact me!

What are your credentials?

I have been teaching for over 20 years, beginning with teaching my own children and transitioning to teaching students in the classroom. I have been a reading instructor for over 8 years and have experience tutoring struggling readers with learning differences. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi in 1988.
